Your Trauma Does NOT Know YOU
Before you experienced any traumatic events, and even after the experience of traumatic events, you always knew you.
You know your inner essence,
your bright light,
the joy in your heart,
the peace in your soul.
Trauma knows your bones when they ache,
your brain when it fogs up,
your body when you fight, flee, fawn, freeze or flop,
and none of these trauma responses are YOU.
You know your joy in your heart when you take in a big deep breath and see the smile on your child’s face as she feels snow in her hand for the first time.
You know the peace in your soul when you sink your toes into the warm sand by the Florida ocean after a long snowy winter in New England.
You know your essence, your bright light, when you are present with your loved ones in a snuggle, cuddle or comforting hug.
Daily Practices to Release the hold of trauma and embrace your authentic self:
When you feel trauma response in your aching bones, breathe, sway gently back and forth in a seated or standing position, and speak kindly out loud so your bones and your authentic self can hear and feel you:
“My bones are present, not in past trauma. My bones are strong, brave and mine to care for.”
When your brain fogs up, simply notice, and begin to butterfly tap. If tapping is too much, simply sway or hug yourself.
When your body shifts into one of the Fs - fight, flee, fawn, freeze or flop, engage box breathing to bring your breath back to your body.
Practice these basic self-nurturing techniques to calm trauma responses.
Know that these techniques inform your body that you are not under threat in the present moment.
The more you practice, the more your body calms and remains present.
Daily YOU Journaling:
Take note, write down, draw, take photos, every day or YOU noticing YOU!
You noticing the real you, the authentic, joyful, bright, peaceful you!
The more you notice your authentic self in the present, the brighter you shine the light on your true essence, the more you will see and BE yourself!
