  • If you are thinking about EMDR, click here to learn more from EMDRIA!

EMDR is an acronym for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This evidence-based therapeutic protocol was developed by Francine Shapiro in 1987. With the use of BLS (bilateral stimulation), traumatic memories are reprocessed, desensitized and the trauma response you experienced in your body, thoughts and behaviors diminishes or “fades” to make room for your authentic calm and joyful self.

  • This EMDRIA brochure will answer your questions!

EMDR includes 8 phases from history taking, resource building, through reprocessing to installation of positive core beliefs. These 8 phases provide relief from symptoms within weeks and have resulted in sustained decreased symptoms for the long-term.

  • EMDR sessions follow the evidence-based protocol of 8 phases.‍ ‍

The first two phases are important to set a solid foundation of safety, rapport, trust, and resourcing for you to begin phases 3-8.

Phases 1-2 may take 4-6 sessions, and phases 3-8 can take 6-12 sessions.

Most clients report “feeling better” as well as a change in how they treat themselves and interact with others, after 12-18 sessions. With consistent weekly sessions, this timeline is 4-6 months.

This data represents a bell curve with clients on either end who may respond with symptoms relief as early as two months, and clients with complex trauma who may feel symptom relief at 10-12 months with a need for check-ins to maintain gains afterward.

When you consider that traditional talk therapy can take 2-4 years for symptom relief related to traumatic events, EMDR as a modality is simply life-changing!

  • Fees are $180 per individual EMDR session which is approximately 60 minutes in length.
